Battery weighing three-ton falling on Earth from International Space Station:
Know the preparations of NASA
A battery weighing about three tons is falling on Earth from International Space Station (ISS). This battery has now been removed from the space station and new batteries are installed in their place.
The 2.9 ton battery is falling towards the earth from about 426 km from the International Space Station (ISS). This battery was used to illuminate the space station.
However, this battery is now outdated and is being sent to the earth. The battery was attached to the massive robotic arm of the space station. With this help, the battery has now been sent towards the earth.
Batteries can hit the ground anytime?
If you are thinking that this giant battery can ever hit the earth, then it is not like that at all. You will be stunned to know that it will take two to four years for these batteries to reach the lower orbit of the earth where more wastes are floating in space. After this, this battery will slowly reach to the Earth’s orbit and will be destroyed automatically. These batteries have been separated at a time when NASA has changed the space station batteries.
Largest space object sent from ISS
The process of replacing the batteries started in 2016 and 24 lithium-ion batteries have been replaced in place of 48 nickel hydrogen batteries. Batteries have been completely changed in the year 2020 after almost 4 years. There was no plan to destroy these batteries in the orbit in this way. Earlier it was to be brought to Earth with the help of Japan’s H-2 transfer vehicle but due to the failure of the Soyuz rocket to be launched in the year 2018, the whole plan has been changed.
Largest Space Object
NASA communication’s specialist Leh Cheshire said in a statement that it is the largest space object that has been sent from the ISS. It weighs about 2.9 tons. Earlier, the ammonia servicing system tank was sent from the space station in the year 2007. It was carried out by the space walker Clay Andersen during the STS-118 mission.
