Indian Companies Collecting more Data than WhatsApp
WhatsApp’s new privacy policy controversy is still not ending. Something has been said by WhatsApp that many companies will probably be exasperated. WhatsApp has taken the name of some Indian companies and said that they collecting more data from users.
WhatsApp said that apps like Zomato, Big Basket, Ola, Koo, Arogya Setu and True Caller (Not an Indian company.) collect more data than WhatsApp.
WhatsApp has filed a petition in the Delhi High Court. The company has alleged that most apps collecting more data from user than WhatsApp. The company has clearly stated that WhatsApp collects less user data from these apps.
According to a report by Inc42, on May 5, WhatsApp filed a petition in the Delhi High Court. The company has also mentioned Microsoft, Google and Zoom in its petition. Interestingly, WhatsApp has also accused Republic TV of collecting more user data in its petition.
In the report of Inc42, these things have been said by quoting an affidavit of WhatsApp. In this affidavit, WhatsApp has also mentioned that if the company is not allowed to implement the new then it will be difficult for the tech companies to operate. Especially for companies that deliver grocery.
Significantly, a petition was filed against WhatsApp in the Delhi High Court in January. Since the new policy of WhatsApp is going to be implemented from May 15 and WhatsApp does not want the deadline to be increased this time too. Although the WhatsApp of those who do not accept the policy will continue to work, but after some time the features will start to stop.
WhatsApp has said that this new privacy policy will not affect the privacy of WhatsApp chats. The company has emphasized that it will collect the data of business users and the communication done with it. However, in the coming time, there may be more controversy about this.
Features that will stop working if we do not accept the WhatsApp’s new policy
If the new policy is not accepted, users will not be able to see their chat list, but will be able to answer incoming voice calls and video calls.
At the moment, users now have some time left to accept the new policy update of WhatsApp. The new policy is going to go into effect from May 15 and it focuses on sharing user data with Facebook. For the last few months, both the users have been seeing concern and resentment about this new policy. The company has also updated the updated policy in the FAQ section of its website. Now, the main question arises that if the users have not adopted this privacy policy, what will happen to them.
WhatsApp’s FAQ reads clearly in the microsite that “due to this update, no user’s WhatsApp account will be deleted on May 15, nor will anyone’s account stop working. We have a notification on WhatsApp for the past several weeks showing more information about this update. We have given all the users a lot of time to read this update. Now we are reminding those who have not yet read and accepted this update. We are now reminding those who have not yet read and accepted it. After a few weeks, users will continue to receive reminders.”
Regarding the reminder, WhatsApp has further clarified that “If you do not accept the updated terms and privacy policy by then, you will be able to use some of the features of WhatsApp limited.” This suggests that users’ accounts will not be closed or deleted if the new policy is not accepted, instead limiting the use of certain features.
If the new policy is not accepted, users will not be able to see their chat list, but will be able to answer incoming voice calls and video calls. However, if the user has turned on WhatsApp notifications, then he will be able to read the message, or reply to the message by tapping on the incoming WhatsApp notifications. Apart from this, the user will be able to make voice or video calls by tapping on the missed voice call or video call notifications.
Note-WhatsApp has warned in clear terms that after using these limited features for a few weeks, incoming calls and notifications will stop getting received and the user will neither be able to send messages or make calls on WhatsApp. It has also been told that the existing privacy policy will be applicable on inactive accounts as well.
Few months ago WhatsApp has said in its clarification that there will be no dent on the privacy of users with this updated policy. Chat will remain encrypted end-to-end as before and will not access messages, media content, voice calls and video calls sent by WhatsApp and Facebook users.
We should other companies which may collecting more data from user. Collecting more data from user is depends on the privacy policy of the particular app.
