Mysterious Little Creatures
Mysterious ‘little creatures’ found in International Space Station, discovered by Indian and American scientists.
Scientists at the International Space Station have discovered four new bacteria. Indian scientists working with NASA are also involved in this search team. These bacteria are found in soil and fresh water.
Washington
A team of Indian and American scientists working with the US Space Agency NASA (NASA) has discovered tiny bacteria at the International Space Station (ISS). This bacteria is none other than the bacteria living on different surfaces, whose four new strains. The world was unaware of the three new strains of this bacterium till date. Scientists are also surprised to find four new strains of bacteria at this isolated place thousands of kilometers away from the earth.
These bacteria were found at different places in ISS
These microbes were first identified in 2015 and 2016. One of these was found on the overhead panel of the International Space Station Research Station.
The second was discovered in the top-most raised structure, observation and work area of the ISS.
Its third strain was discovered at the dining table in the space station. The fourth one was found in the old HEPA air filter.
These bacteria are related to soil and fresh water.
All four strains of this bacterium have been reported to belong to the family of bacteria found in soil and freshwater. These bacteria are involved in nitrogen fixation and plant growth and can help fight bacteria causing plant diseases; so these bacteria can help also especially in cultivation,.
How to reach the space station?
Now scientists are wondering that what these soil bacteria are doing at the International Space Station. The scientists living here by consume a very small amount of food. In such a situation, it is a mystery that how did these plant bacteria comes here? And if they come then how are they alive? Scientists have genetically discovered that three of them belong to an unknown species of bacteria.
Given this name
The three bacteria have been named-
1) IF7SW-B2T,
2) IIF1SW-B5 and
3) IIF4SW-B5.
The fourth strain which was found in the old Hepa filter is related to a known microbial species named Methylorubrum Rhodesianum.
